www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=222992&hubname=nhlPlacing goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov on waivers today. Never saw this coming Being an Oiler fan and seeing how Dwayne Roloson has played so far this year I am hoping that Kevin Lowe makes a claim for him. Yes I know they would have to trade Roloson but I am sure someone would take him for a draft pick.

Hard to imagine no offers for Bryzgalov, forcing a waiver...
Would Roloson really bring in more than Bryz?

I don't think it matters what the Ducks do, there's gonna be "OMG, Neidermeyer is coming back" rumors everday...I honestly believe that Burke just wasn't getting the right offers and was willing to let Bryzgalov do what he wanted out of respect for him and his keeping his mouth shut while he played backup for all those years...

You'd think if that were the case then he would trade him to a relatively good team, instead of feeding him to the wolves and letting the basement dwellers have at him. It's definatly a confusing move, only thing that really makes sense is shedding salary I guess.

Burke tried to trade Ilya but there were no takers...don't know if Burke was asking for too much in return or what the story was. I did hear Burke say that he did try to trade him so Ilya could start but since that failed, Burke put Ilya on waivers in hopes that a team would pick him up to give him the starting role. As for Roloson, I know he won't get that much in value because of his age, lack of performance and most importantly his contract. But getting something for him is well worth having Bryzgalov starting.

It's kind of hard to trade a #1 goalie to a team that is doing well because they already have their #1 Goalie... If he is a true #1 with true #1 abilities he won't mind signing for a bottomw feeder(Pheonix) cuz he'll make an instant impact(SO)...

We must also consider the fact that Bryzgalov will be an unrestriced free agent next season, which I'm sure made it even more difficult to trade him. Obviously, we're not really sure how difficult it was for Burke to make a reasonable trade for Bryzgalov, but I do give him credit for putting a guy like that on waivers and giving him a chance to move on. With that said, I think that if Burke did not hand out that stupid contract to Bertuzzi in the off season, then Bryzgalov would have in all likely hood remained a Duck until the end of the season, or at the very least, the trade deadline.
I do kind of admire Burke though. He always seems to do what is necessary to better his club and/or help out his players. Now if only the Leafs and John Ferguson Jr. would make those tough decisions and put half of the team on waivers.
