I don't know how many of you heard this yet, but yesterday Brad Richards signed a contract to remain in Tampa that will pay him $39 million over the next 5 years.
With accepting the contract, Richards is the 2nd highest paid player only to Jagr in the NHL. Now that doesn't make sense.
I really don't know what Jay Feaster is thinking as he now has St. Louis, Lecavalier and Richards making a combined $20 million per season. That would leave Feaster approximately $19-$22.5 million to round out his team. Furthermore, Tampa needs to pick up a goalie as John Grahame isn't the solution. Maybe St. Louis traded for a #1 netminder? Who knows what is going to happen.

Does anyone know what his salary from year to year is going to be? It looks to be 7.8 million per season for 5 years, but I was just curious if it started a little lower and increased as the years went on. Doesn't really mater because Richards is not worth nearly that much. Yes, he is a tremedeous player, but by paying this guy that much money, Tampa Bay is just causing the market to inflate again. Not the best of signings!

From what I have read and heard (through the grapevine), an acquantance works for the Lightning....but anyways....
Richards contract will be $7.8M/yr. I know he was going to be an UFA after next season so Feaster did a good thing by locking up Richards, but I don't agree with what he signed for.
I just wonder how many players now, that are going to be RFA's are going to compare themselves to Brad Richards. This isn't good news at all.
