I think Thornton is the better choice.
He had the most points, helped create a 50-goal scorer and took a team that was going nowhere to the playoffs (just compare San Jose's record before the trade and after).

i agree with Vampyres, Thornton make a big impact on the Sharks.
And he finish first in point.
P.S.: I think you wanted to say Hart Trophey and not Art Ross Trophy because Art Ross is give for the player with most points.

The Art Ross Trophy goes to the player who ended up with the most points at the end of the season and seeing that Thornton won the scoring race then it is Thornton who will get it.
There is no voting for this trophy.

The only reason this is even a debate is because Jagr is on a 'big market' club, which affects how the people voting on the award view him....there is a definite bias towards the larger market teams in the NHL. If Thornton doesn't win the award, it will be because the people voting on the award are predisposed towards players on the big market teams.

Vampyres, not to sound like an not a very nice person, but the Art Ross is not a trophy that is voted on. It goes to the NHL player that won the scoring race for the season. So Thornton will be given the trophy when the awards are handed out. Thornton 81gp 29g 96a 125pts Jagr 82gp 54g 69a 123pts And if I am reading your post wrong please forgive me, but it sounds like you are saying that the Art Ross Trophy is an award that is voted on along the likes of Lady Bing, Calder, Norris, Vezina. There are only 2 trophies that aren't voted on and that is the Art Ross and Maurice Richard Trophies.

I am assuming that we're all talking about the Hart Trophy here (as the entire post makes no sense otherwise). I agree with your original assessment that wildcats just put the wrong trophy name in the subject line (in fact I think he agreed with you too).
I'm not sure if he can modify the subject line or not, which makes it confusing, but I think we all know we're really talking about the Hart.

Personally, I think that Thornton should win the Hart trophy. I mean here's a guy that simply makes everybody around him, that much better because of his passing and intensity abilities. Take Cheechoo for example. Before the Thornton deal Cheechoo had only 7 goals in 24 games. After the Thornton deal Cheechoo went on to score 49 more goals in 58 games, 39 of which were set up by Thornton. Joe Thornton is simply a passing machine, and I think well deserving of the Hart Trophy.

Okay now it makes sense. Sorry about the confusion on my part.
Anyways....Thornton should win the Hart Trophy.

And the winner is....Joe Thornton.
And did you read the following: Jagr didn't leave empty handed, receiving the Lester B. Pearson Award as outstanding player, as voted by his peers in the NHL Players' Association.
"With this award, you get voted on by the players you play against every night and I think they understand the game better than the media," he said.
Did anyone else think this sounds a bit like sour grapes?

Regardless of how Jagr played, it still sounds bad to say that....like he's trying to say that he's more deserving that Thornton. You can be a great player and be humble about it but Jagr doesn't seem to want to be that type of player....and I hate players that are full of themselves.
