The Norris Trophy is awarded to the defenseman judged to be the best player at his position. The winner of this award is selected by the GM's of the National Hockey Association.
Brian Campbell - 77 games played, 12 goals, 60 assists, 72 points, 85 blocked shots
This is the first time Campbell has been nominated for the Norris trophy and it's well deserved after the impressive numbers he put up. With a .94 points per game average Campbell led all defenemen in this category. His smooth stride and on-ice vision helped lead the Canucks to a 101 point season.
Scott Niedermayer - 85 games played, 19 goals, 53 assists, 72 points, 153 blocked shots
This is the fourth time in the past five seasons that Niedermayer has been nominated for the Norris, with him winning in 2006. Age the age of 35, Niedermayer seems to be one of those special defensemen who gets better with age. Scoring 72 points in 85 games is an accomplishment on it's own. Add to that the impressive 153 shots that he blocked and you have a true winner.
Andrei Markov - 82 games played, 18 goals, 52 assists, 70 points, 23 minutes/game average ice-time.
With the Ravens missing the playoffs yet again, Markov was the lone bright spot on a team trying to find it's identity. Markov had 18 goals and 70 points this past season and led the Ravens in average ice-time per game. A true competitor well deserving of a Norris nomination.
Mike Green - 82 games played, 20 goals, 52 assists, 72 points, +19
Green had a great rookie campain with his 20 goals and 72 points. There is not question that Green is an impressive offensive force on the ice, it remains to be seen if he can play a strong defensive game which is the model of champions. With a solid +19 rating this past season, Green is well on his way to proving he can play at both ends of the ice.
