The Calder Trophy is awarded to the player judged to be the most proficient in his first year of competition in the NHA. The winner is selected by the GM's of the National Hockey Association.
Peter Mueller - 82 games player, 25 goals, 43 assists, 68 points, 3 game winners
It's rare for a rookie to be given as much responsibility so quickly and yet relish the chance. Mueller became the Canucks number one center this season and adapted to the roll immediately. Scoring 68 points and leading his club in ice-time. All eyes will be on this 20 year old going forward.
Mike Green - 82 games played, 20 goals, 52 assists, 72 points, 10 PP goals
The Gladiators have done a very good job of turning out high-end defensemen with Green joining that crew. Green, in his first season with the Gladiators showed offensive skills that should make him a top defenseman in the league for years to come. Scoring 72 points, good for 3rd on the team, Green is a worth candidate for this years Calder trophy.
Brandon Sutter - 81 games played, 19 goals, 34 assists, 53 points, 51% on faceoffs.
Brandon Sutter went very quietly about his business this season and yet when the regular season concluded, there was Sutter sitting 4th among rookies with 53 points. Sutter centered the 2nd line for the majority of the year and was a dependable player in the faceoff circle winning 51% of his draws.
Enver Lisin - 70 games played, 20 goals, 30 assists, 50 points, 4 game winning goals
This 22 year old right winger was not expected to crack the Panther line-up this past season. However, after a strong training camp, GM Frank Bagnato had no choice but to give him an opportunity. Lisen made the most of it with 50 points in 70 games and should only improve upon those numbers next season.
