I know that Philly needed some cap room to get a deal completed with Bryzgalov, but WTF Holmgren!?!
Bryzgalov is NOT worth having to move both Richards and Carter.
I saw the Carter deal happen, and its pretty much what's been rumoured for weeks.
But to trade their F$!#%!# Captain, who has been the heart and soul of the gd club since the lockout, is a stupid brain-dead idiotic moronic move.
I haven't really followed one club faithfully since the lockout, but of all the clubs, Philly was one of my favourites. They can go F$#% themselves now.

I can't $#%&% believe it myself. Carter and Richards are arguably the top-two players on the Flyers roster and to trade them both away like this makes absolutely no sense.
The team as it was constructed was very close to being a Stanley Cup contender. Yes, they have some cap issues to deal with, especially with the recent acquisition of Bryzgalov, but to send Richards and Carter packing makes me wonder what kind of moron is running the ship.

I think I'm going to have to follow the Kings now. I can't even state how disgusted I am with Holmgren.

And now they sign Bryzgalov to a f@%$@#$ 9 year contract!?! WTF Who signs a goalie for frickin 9 years? Look at the Canucks and where that has them. Bryz is not worth that term at his age. And the team has stepped back from being a clear contender now too. My God Holmgren lost his marbles.

There has been talk for a while now about Carter being traded in order to make cap space for Ilya Bryzgalov. But for Holmgron to trade Richards who has been nothing short of a warrior for Philly is simply crazy. Why would he make such a move? I don't understand.

I wouldn't have dealt both Richards and Carter, but he got a pretty solid return for both of them.
If JVR takes another step this year and Giroux plays as well as he did last year, I think the Flyers would be as strong as they were last year. They're still ridiculously deep up front and all three young players should be in their starting line-up next year.
The Bryz contract is kind of confusing though. I mean, he's a solid goalie, but I wouldn't pay him Miller or Lundqvist money. That's a really long-term deal as well, they'll need him to stay consistent for a long time.

I can see what Holmgren is trying to do, but this now leaves a big hole up the middle where their strength used to be.
It's now Giroux and Briere up the middle (Schenn is a rookie, so that can't be counted on), and while I'm glad they obviously have a lot of faith in Giroux, the fact is that they are losing size and intensity.
The problems with Philly were the goaltending and the wingers (Richards had to play a lot of the season with Carcillo and Nodl). They added Voracek (a 2nd/3rd liner) and Simmonds (a 3rd liner), so they still have some issues on the wing.
Even more problematic is the ridiculous contract that was given to Bryzgalov, which may or may not be good for the first few years, but will then likely become an anchor on the franchise's neck, similar to the Luongo contract in Vancouver.

It's times like these that I sit back and say... "Thank you GM's in the Atlantic division. Thank you for running your teams like crap and destroying anything even remotely decent looking that you have going. Anything that makes the Flightless birds, Fly-boys, Rags, or Fishsticks worse makes me happy.
Go Devils! I'm very happy with the draft for the record. I think my boys got a big piece of the puzzle that we've been missing. Now if we can just get Parise signed long term and avoid an arbitration fiasco.

I couldn't believe it when I heard it on the radio. They got a good return for both players, and you have to look at it outside of the box and ask why?
It has been rumoured that there was some problems in the dressing room and that Richards had conflicts with both Pronger and Laviolette so that is probably why he got traded. As for Carter, it has been rumoured also for weeks that he was going to be traded so really that didn't come as a surprise to me.
How I see it is that they were in cap trouble and they fixed that with dealing both players saving money and being able to sign their RFA's.
It just goes to show that anyone is tradeable now.

From the standpoint of troubles in the locker room, I have no trouble at all believing that Pronger was a BIG part of that issue. So then I'd ask why move your 26-year old Captain, who is signed to be a Flyer-for-life at a cap-friendly rate, when Pronger is on the down-swing, has been injured a lot lately and whose contract is much shorter?
If I were either Carter or Richards I'd be pissed that I'd signed a contract designed with the intention to be with the Flyers for their entire careers, only to be traded with over a decade left on the contract; the cap-friendly terms were a home-town discount. Richards and Carter showed good-faith and commitment to the organization but the organization breached this good-faith with them. If it were me, I'd be pissed and I'd let fly with my opinions on the organization.
