Well, its official, the Atlanta Thrashers will move to winnipeg for the 2011-2012 NHL season. This marks the second time a team moves to Canada from Atlanta, and also the second time Winnipeg has an NHL franchise.
No team names or logos have been released yet? What are your guys' thoughts for team names and logos?

Although I'm not sure that Winnipeg and the surrounding area can support an NHL franchise long-term, I still think this is fantastic news.
As for the name change, I'm pretty confident they'll go with Winnipeg Jets or Manitoba Jets even though the actual Jets became the Phoenix franchise. There is still a great deal of emotional attachment to the name.
I'm looking forward to watching them play next season.

I think the Jets will win over again, but Dave Hodge suggested the Winnipeg Rebels on a TSN special, which I really liked, and it ties into Winnipeg's history, but jets should win out (especially considering the distance they'll be traveling next year)

There was some discussion on Hockey Central about the Jets name being used, but the logo and jersey being changed.

I think nostalgia will win out and the team will be renamed the Jets. However I'm more surprised Winnipeg received a franchise before Quebec City. Seems to me they have everything a franchise would need to succeed long term. Winnipeg? I guess we'll see how they do.

Yeah but nobody wanted to play in Quebec, Eric Lindros in particular.

I may be wrong on this, but doesn't the Phoenix franchise still own the rights to the name Winnipeg Jets? I could be wrong, and if so please correct me.
I was listening to the fan590 (sports talk so in Toronto) and one person had a brilliant idea to name the team Winnipeg Thrashers. This all pertaining to how the farmers thrash the seeds out of wheat, wool and other things that are farmed.
I do like the name Winnipeg Thrashers as it does have some nostalgia to the team.
As for Quebec City not getting this team, I believe that will be soon solved by Phoenix moving there next year.

The NHL controls the Jets name, so it shouldn't be an issue if True North wants to use the name.
I for one, would be a little disappointed if the team isn't named the Jets. It sounds like the majority of locals want the Jets back as well.
