One of my boyhood hero's passed today, Rick Martin, 1/3 of Buffalo's French Connection, along with Rene Robert and Gil Perreault. Most of you younger guys probably don't know who he was, but in the 1971-72 season he broke the rookie goal scoring record when he netted 44 his first year. 10 years with the Sabres, 384 goals, 317 assists, 701 points, 115 PPG. Member of the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame. Only 59 years old.

I vaguely remember them playing together in their later years when I watched my first Islander games with my older brother. I remember him telling me about the French connection line but as a kid I thought they were Nordiques not Sabres. To be a kid again, RIP Rich Martin.
