Rerates

I was wondering if there could be an ammendment to the current rerate rules. Out of curiousity to see the reaction of the rest of the league, here is my idea.
I propose that we allow one sim-related rerate per club at the end of the season as to give players a boost who perform well in our league. I think this is a good idea as it gives GM's a chance to "build" players, which is one of my favorite parts of being a fantasy GM.
Just throwing it out there but if enough people agree I am sure we might be able to make a change here.

This would have to be one of the few points I disagree with you on, Mark.
I think having any sim re-rates could potentially throw the entire league out of whack by making mega-superstars. For example, how many points did Palffy have last season? Something like 125 points, right....and in the NHL in 2003-04, the Art Ross trophy was awarded to Martin St Louis, who had a grand total of 94 points. That means that Palffy would have monster stats compared to the rest of the league (instead of stats based on the 41 pts in 35 games that he really had that year) and thrown the rerate system totally out of whack....there's too much room for abuse in the sim re-rate system.

Speaking of rerates- I'd rather be given an option to debate the NHL (re)rating of x number of players per team. Not so big on mixing fantasy and NHL re-rates myself, but wouldn't be a huge disappointment to me if it did go through.

I'm also not very big on this proposal as it would not give an accurate representation of all the players. Not to mention that when teams trade one of their sim based rated players to another team does that player then resort back to an NHL rerate or keep the fantasy re-rate etc....
At least with an NHL based rating system for all players, things are kept fairly realistic and every single GM in the league has a pretty good idea of where their players fall.
I'm willing to listen to everyone's comments as always though!

Fair enough. It's something I would like to at least see happen in the future but if not that is fine.

Not so big on mixing fantasy and NHL re-rates myself, but wouldn't be a huge disappointment to me if it did go through. Knights said it best here. This in my experience seems to work best in NHL re-rated leagues. It gives guys a chance to "fix" a couple of their players that may have been under-rated. However, the appropriate agruement would have to be presented to the commish based on the stats or past history of being a quality player. Then the commish or ratings committee (another aspect that could be looked into to possible improve the lead and lighten the commishs load) would alter the ratings depending on the arguement. anyway , just a few thoughts...

Unless a league is based entirely on the sim or entirely on the NHL, there is no way to fairly rate the players against each other. As I pointed out above, there would be certain players that totally blow away the ratings curve and then be unfairly rated as compared to the majority of the league's players....(creating Super-players that are not realistic in any way).
The fact that this is an NHL-rerate league, more than any other issue in our league, affects how this league works. It has been the premise upon which the league has run from the beginning and long-term strategies have developed from this basic rule. If this were to change, then it would invalidate the hopes of the rebuilding teams to eventually become competitive and greatly benefit teams that are already great competitors in the league. The standard set by rating based upon the real NHL statistics gives us all the same playing field and allows us to trade/draft/sign players with some certainty of how they will eventually turn out.

How can you guys actually ask to be changed to a sim league, or partially to a sim league. I didn't join this league because it was a sim league, I joined because of the NHL rerates.
If you want a sim league, go join. I am sure I can find plenty of leagues out there for you guys that just go by sim rerates and not NHL rerates.
I am sorry if this sounds harsh, but you all knew what kind of league this was when signing up, so live with it.

My two cents.......leave it as an NHL re-rate league. Don't mix the two re-rate systems together......please!! If you do decide you want a change to the re-rate rules DON'T do it in the middle of the season and hold a league vote. This is a factor for me right now in trade negotiations with another manager. If it was a sim re-rate I would have done the deal last night. Since it's an NHL re-rate the trade has little or no chance of happening as it stands. IMO Rick GM-Devils

The Commish has stated that he much prefers the NHL-rerates and any changes to the league are made at his discretion. I know that he would never change the system mid-season, and I doubt the rating system changes in any off-season. (BTW....I bet I know the exact player you're talking about above )

Leave it as is..........We discussed this last season and agreed to have an NHL based league. If it changes, then I know of 2(wolfpack and wildcats) who are out of here. By the looks of things more would follow really fast. Do not take this the wrong way but to those of you who want a sim based league, Why did you join knowing it is an NHL based league??
Read the rules before you join a league.
I do not mean to be dissing you but a fact is a fact. I work in automotive manufacturing in purchasing. I have planty of sales people wanting me to buy this and by that.
My answer to all of them is"IF it aint broken I am not going to try and fix it"......my point?? >:(The league is not broken, quit trying to mess with it and brake it!!.
